Tour Helena

While in Helena take time to see some of the sights that make the Helena area unique.

Points of Interest in Helena - West Helena

The Delta Cultural Center: At the south end of Cherry Street, the center is housed in a restored train depot. It provides the visitor with a multi-media presentation of the multicultural makeup of the delta and a taste of life in the delta.

Adjacent to the Delta Cultural Center is the Mississippi River Levee Wall adorned with images of blues scenes painted by local artist, Larry Spakes. The scenes recall various artists from past King Biscuit Blues Festivals, Sonny Boy Williamson and the legendary King Biscuit Times radio program. The Levee Walk: This will take you along the levee from the Delta Culutural Center to the entrance to the River Park.

The River Walk: Take the boardwalk to the Mississippi River. At the northern end of Cherry Street go east at the Doughboy Statue over the levee to the River Park and see the river at its finest.

The Phillips County Public Library and Museum: The library is one of the oldest public libraries in the state. The Phillips County Museum next door to the library is rich with memorabilia and artifacts from the past.

Confederate Cemetary: Take a short trip away from the downtown area down Holly Street to the Confederate Cemetary. Along with the Civil War headstones and the towering monument at the crest of the hill, the view from the cemetary toward the river is inspiring.

The Restored Victorian Homes: Within blocks of the downtown area there are a number of spectacular homes in varying states of restoration from the three fully restored bed and breakfasts to the recently opened restoration of the Pillow-Thompson Home which is a project of Phillips College and the community.
